Have you ever heard about The Anarchist Cookbook? It first came out in 1971, and to this day is one of the most controversial cookbooks ever published. However, it’s not your traditional cookbook — It’s filled with recipes and instructions to manufacture explosives, rudimentary telecommunications phreaking devices, and other items. The book also includes instructions for home manufacturing of illicit drugs, including LSD. It was written at the apex of the counterculture era to protest against the United States’ involvement in the Vietnam War.
I don’t currently and have never had any involvement in the anarchist movement, but the book’s title refers to cooking and the anarchy logo became iconic because of the punk movement that I grew up with. So, I animated McDonald’s Happy Meal and sprayed some anarchy sign graffiti on my french fries… using fast food ketchup packets. There is no political or social message behind it. Just playful fun with icons from pop culture.
My hand was a little shaky and not cooperative so Galtvisual lent me his steady hand.
Punk’s not dead!
