And the Food Polka Award for the Best Green Design goes to…

Because this is award season in Hollywood where an actress wearing a designer dress gets major kudos, I decided to take moment and give a Food Polka Award.

The Food Polka Award for the Best Green Design goes to… Kaffir Lime Vase designed by Mother Nature.

One sunny morning as I was walking my dog Jack in my neighbor’s back alley, this all natural, organic vessel rolled to my feet.

I picked it up and sniffed it. Where did it come from? I had never noticed Kaffir lime trees in my neighborhood! Maybe it fell out of someone’s shopping bag!? As a forager of nature’s bounty, I placed it in my pocket and took it home.

The lime sat in my fridge for a week or so. Every time I opened up the door, it kept asking, “So what are you going to do with me?”

It was too beautiful to just cut through it and use it for a culinary purpose. I sensed a higher purpose for it.

The day came when I had some bunches of fresh herbs sitting in a glass. They somehow connected me with the Kaffir lime. I picked it up and looked into the stem area of it. All of a sudden it looked like a perfectly designed natural vessel. An organic shaped vase that even the most famous designers and architects could not have created that perfectly. So, I grabbed a drill and my camera, and the rest is history.

You can now order limited edition, hand signed by me prints of this natural marvel. It looks really sleek in any room or interior but I found it particularly sleek looking in the mid-century modern one.
